Le Youtar
Set off on foot, or rather by bike, following in the footsteps of the old railway line between Audierne and Douarnenez. You'll cycle along safe (car-free) lanes or small shared roads, from Beuzec-Cap-Sizun (Pors Péron beach), via Pont-Croix, Petite Cité de Caractère®, and Audierne. You'll pass alongside the Goyen, an important ornithological site.
A little history: the Youtar was a small train linking Audierne to Douarnenez in 55 minutes (22 km/h), passing through Pont-Croix, Beuzec-Cap-Sizun and Poullan sur Mer (19.8 km). Its purpose was utilitarian: transporting goods, moving people to markets and fairs, and tourism (link to the Pointe du Raz). The line was inaugurated in 1894 and discontinued in 1938, mainly due to the development of another form of public transport: the coach.
Youtar was the nickname given by some inhabitants of Cap-Sizun in tribute to the distinctive sound made by his whistle: Youd! Youd!
The Youtar route also links the 2 northern and southern sections of the V45 "La Littorale" cycle route.
12 km / positive difference in altitude = 150 m (Audierne - Beuzec direction)
